  • Spartans smother Chippewas, 41-7

    A record CMU crowd of 35,127 watched the No. 11 Spartans blast the Chippewas 41-7 on Saturday at Kelly/Shorts Stadium, in MSU's first ever trip here.

    Midland's Andrew Maxwell lead the Spartans to victory.  He completed 20 of 31 passes for 275 yards and two touchdowns, throwing the ball with sharpness after some early jitters. He handed 18 times to Le'Veon Bell, who picked up 70 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

  • Midland's Andrew Maxwell plans to be right at home at Central Michigan

    MSU junior quarterback Andrew Maxwell grew up in Midland and spent many Saturdays making the short trip to Mt. Pleasant to watch the Chippewas.

    "My dad and I would go there almost every weekend that they had a game," Maxwell said. "A lot of my good friends go to Central, so they'll be in the student section, and that's going to be fun."

    The Saturday 3:00 p.m. game is sold out.

  • Dow blanks Mt Pleasant 8-0 in tennis

    Dow began its Saginaw Valley League competition against Mt. Pleasant today winning the match with a score of 8-0. Dow is now 4-0 on the year with 2 tournament wins.

    "It was blistering hot" said coach Terry Schwartzkopf . "Yet, once again, these guys proved focused and driven. All of them played magnificently today "
    Dow next plays at home against Petoskey on Friday followed by the Grosse Pointe North tournament on Saturday.

  • McAlister's Deli to open stores in region

    McAlister's Deli has signed a multi-unit store development agreement calling for new restaurants in central Michigan. "Over the past two years we have made great strides in strengthening the McAlister's Deli brand. Our guests have responded very positively to our menu enhancements and we are experiencing strong same store sales growth and interest in additional development from both new and existing franchisees," said McAlisters Deli President and CEO Frank Paci. A new franchisee, Bobby Coy and Up North Franchising Group, Inc., will develop restaurants to serve Saginaw, Bay City, Midland and Mount Pleasant.

  • Mount Pleasant man, Daily News employee, arraigned

     Midland Daily News weekend editor Ian Patrick Gray, 42, was arraigned this afternoon on four counts of criminal sexual conduct involving a minor. Gray, who lives in Mount Pleasant, was arrested Saturday evening at the Daily News office and is currently in custody at the Isabella County Jail. At the arraignment, Isabella County Judge William Rush formally read Gray the charges filed against him by the Isabella County Prosecutor's Office: One count each of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a minor under the age of 13, second-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a minor under the age of 13, third-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a minor between the ages of 13 and 15, and fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a minor between the ages of 13 and 16. Charging documents state the offenses occurred from 2009 to November 2011.
